About Us
I
read a few months back that an "estimated 50 million caregivers are
currently taking care of loved ones at home" (Companion Connection
Senior Care). I'm not surprised--I was one of them for almost 9
years. My mom, who suffers from Parkinson's disease with Lewy body
dementia (PDD), lives with my husband and I in an apartment built
onto our home. When I couldn't physically spend all my time with her
any longer, I hired caregivers to allow me to devote time to my
family, and, frankly, to myself. I decided to begin this business
to not only help our aging adult population and family members who
care for them, but to aid any adult who is disabled at home and
needs the kind of treatment our caregivers show my mom.
As owner and administrator of Caregivers Today, LLC, I have nine
years of personal experience caring for my mother. Two years prior
to her illness, I helped her care for my father, who died from colon
cancer at the age of 70. I understand the helplessness, confusion
and the frustration felt by many of our senior population and their
families. After deciding to pursue my idea to form this company, I
became a member of Companion Connection Senior Care, a national
organization committed to helping seniors. I then formed Caregivers
Today, LLC and have earned my CSA certification (Certified Senior
Advisor) so that I can better serve seniors and their families. I
earned a Masters Degree from Western Illinois University and teach
college students in this community; education and awareness within
our society are of the utmost importance to me.
The staff I've hired are top notch--they are all caregivers with
prior experience who demonstrate the same compassion I feel for our
aging adults. Each is skilled in everything from offering pleasant
companionship to the care of people stricken with Alzheimer's and
other dementias. Our caregivers are given the opportunity to become
educated and skilled in all areas of non-medical senior care, and
they are bonded and insured. Our head case manager has 18 years of
experience as a caregiver; therefore, her expertise in overseeing
both caregivers and clients is inspiring. She understands the
importance on the emphasis of "family" that is--and will continue to
be--the main focus of this company. We use the least amount of
caregivers per client to alleviate the feeling of "strangers in your
home."
You might be an older adult who is still independent, but would like
companionship or to simply feel safer knowing someone is close by.
Maybe you require help with activities of daily living, including
things like personal care or preparing meals. Perhaps you'd just
like to get out a bit to get your own groceries, shop, or visit
friends, but need aid to do so. It's possible that you or a loved
one wants to return home and recuperate after a stay in the
hospital, but need companionship and light housekeeping or meals
prepared. If you are the main caregiver of a parent, you may need
some respite in order to stay healthy; if you live far from your
parent, we understand your concerns.
We are a licensed non-medical in-home care agency. Caregivers
Today strives to help those in need of respite care, our older
adults, those who are in or just out of the hospital--the list goes
on. Regardless of your age, situation or
lifestyle, we are committed to offering independence and respect to
you while maintaining the integrity of your home. Please call
us today at 309.736.774 to talk about your situation or find out
more about our services.
Sincerely,
Debra S.
